Artist Statement

How can something be made physically tangible that cannot be assigned to a single place?

The body may not end where we have learned to draw its boundaries. I am interested in how it continues beyond itself—through materials, tools, spaces, and repeated actions.

Through sculpture and installation, I create physical situations in which experiences that seem neither entirely within the body nor entirely outside of it can emerge. I am drawn to materials whose own behaviour can influence what a work becomes. Form develops through the ongoing exchange between material, action, and circumstance.

The idea of muscle memory offers one way of approaching these questions. Rather than understanding it as something stored within the body, I see it as a way of experiencing how movement exceeds the individual. A repeated gesture does not remain with the one performing it, but becomes entangled with what surrounds it, leaving traces that cannot be attributed to a single body.

My work seeks to create physical situations in which the distinctions we have learned to make between body, object, and environment begin to loosen. What emerges instead are temporary constellations in which relationships themselves become the material of experience.
